Dine at Excapade PDF Print E-mail

excapade1Excapade Sushi is probably the most successful local franchise eatery in Brunei Darussalam. Well, to me that is. Why? Because whenever they expand and expand, there is a still a queue during lunch and dinner hours. So I'm proud to say that Excapade Sushi is one of its kind for its successful formula in terms of patronage and repeat customers.

Ok, let's cut to the chase... Excapade Sushi will be having a special discount to those who have Excapade Privilege Card (PC) and they can enjoy 15% discount at  all their outlets during the Ramadhan Period.

You can visit their existing outlets at Gadong, Kiulap (two branches), Serusop (near HSBC) and Kuala Belait. I will be posting the numbers soon for bookings.

Bunut Teppanyaki & Shabu Shabu branch:
Spg 638, A2 Ground Flr
Bgn Lim Seng Kok.
Tel: 2654312    Hp: 7174312
Open from 11am - 10pm daily :)

Members and families of SMARTER Brunei, which supports individuals with Autism, where given the opportunity to be the first guests at Excapade’s latest branch in Bunut; the new Teppanyaki and Shabu Shabu branch. They were treated to a Sungkai Buffet prepared by Excapade, specially for them.

Smile! You’re on LFHW!

Escapade-1b
One of the families enjoying their Sungkai Buffet specially prepared for them.

Escapade-1c
It was quite a good spread of various types of sushi and teppanyaki items.

Escapade-1d
The chefs working hard to prepare the Sungkai Buffet spread.

Escapade-4
That certainly looked good! Hmmmm… Excapade is introducing many new items in their new menu so be sure to check them out the next time you visit any of their branches.

Escapade-15
This is one of the latest addition to their Chuka (marinated) menus, is this marinated top shell, which has a very good texture and bite to it. One of the must try new products!

Escapade-18
Salmon wrapped vegetables topped with Cod Roe (Mentaiko)

Escapade-20
This is their Tropical roll, with sliced mangoes, which goes very well with the salmon! Delicious!

Escapade-21
For sashimi lovers, one thing they must try is the premium sashimi selection, which includes sashimi of the highest quality items. Something you can splurge on to treat yourself.

For this new branch, they offer something different from the other branches; they are specialized in Teppanyaki and Shabu Shabu stations for the customers.

Escapade-22

Now you might ask what’s Teppanyaki? It’s basically food cooked on a hot plate and served with a selection or choice of Teriyaki, Teppanyaki or Black Pepper sauce. The high heat from the hot plate caramelizes the food, giving it great flavour and crisp texture on the outside. In this new branch, you can order from a vast variety of items from their Teppanyaki menu. The chefs will cook your orders for you, so you will not have oil and smoke all over your hair and clothes.

Escapade-23
Teppanyaki Scallops! OMG OMG! *CHOMPS *

Escapade-24
Teppanyaki Lobster! Ahhhh!! Nyaman!! Nyaman!!

Escapade-25
Teppanyaki Slipper Prawns with Teriyaki Sauce. I’m luvin it!

Escapade-26
Ladies and Gentleman, say hello to Teppanyaki Wagyu Beef. Simply tender and delicious! There are still a lot of other items to choose from and you will be amazed at their selections!

Escapade-28a

Now on to the Shabu Shabu. If you’ve been to Ice Bar Shabu Shabu in Kiulap, this is quite similar to that except that they have higher quality items and more variety to choose from. You can choose from a selection of Chicken Soup, Miso Soup, Kimchi Soup or Tom Yam soup as your soup base for your Shabu Shabu (Steam Boat).

One good thing is that their Shabu Shabu uses induction cookers, so you wont burn yourself easily. But please don’t put your mobile phones or keys on top of those induction cookers. LOL.

Escapade-29
This is one of the seafood sets, which we chose for our Shabu Shabu. Quite a luxurious spread!

Escapade-30
A more meaty selection set, which includes even Wagyu Beef!

Escapade-33a
You can have many other side orders for your Shabu Shabu, such as this soft shell crab.

Escapade-35a
They have very good quality Oysters! Very very very nice!! Guaranteed satisfaction! * Slurps* I did not even need to cook them, just eat them raw.

Escapade-36a
Alaskan King Crab Legs. Ooooh! So much crab meat~~ Nyum!!

Escapade-37a
This is one of their new products as well, the Hokkaido Snow Crab Legs.

Escapade-40a
Dip those Hokkaido Crab Legs in the soup for a few seconds and swirl …

Escapade-41a
Then ITADAKIMASU!!!!! Grrrrzz!!! Oi Shi!!!! Most of these items can be eaten raw but when cooked in the Shabu Shabu Soup; gives the soup a heightened blend of flavours! One word: NYAMAN!

Escapade-56a
They also offer two new desserts such as this Vanilla Ice Cream with mango syrup, glutinous dumplings, jelly, sliced oranges and azuki red beans with corn flakes.

Escapade-57a
This other one uses Green Tea ice cream. I must stress that this is such a good dessert, which contains different textures and flavours of several ingredients, yet can go so well together. Each different bite and mix of this dessert gives a different feeling and taste!

Escapade-58a
As Maurina says “THIS IS GENIUS!” I have to agree with her. Splendid dessert! Thumbs up! Cookie Monzter likes this!

Escapade-68a
We definitely enjoyed our Teppanyaki and Shabu Shabu experience. You simply must try this new branch!

written by Laila, August 16, 2010
I don't know about now, but a couple of years ago i went with my friends to one of the branches, i think Gadong if im not mistaken, and when we were at the coutner to pay, i saw the red sign saying 'bukan tempat makanan org islam' behind the cashier. A bit terpampan tho. I was a bit surprised and told my friends but they ignored it and were like 'eh bnyk jua org melayu mkn sini, so must be halal'.

Soo i dont know. Sorry i dont mean to cause rumors/trouble to Excapade's business or make ppl who love eat at Excapade feel uneasy.. true they use halal meat and dont have sake, but what abt the sauces and other ingredients used in cooking? Would be great if someone can confirm their halal status smilies/smiley.gif

Thank you smilies/smiley.gif

I can confirm that i saw it too!!! i went to qlap branch the last time..and saw...the non halal notice behind the counter...im very very sure that it was excapade sush restaurant...halal by means shud be as a whole....f its true they dont use mirin...then what abt other ingredients..sauces, paste,etc....im sure we can ask the manager but the question is he/she knows the true meaning of halal (in depth)...it is not enuff and fair f they conclude the dishes are halal only because they are not using any alcoholic ingredients.

careful with what you say
written by Observer, August 20, 2010
@Laila

I saw the same exact posting on a popular site on FB. Similar asking the same question and naive abt whether it's halal or not. In the end, other readers comments was to ask that person to be more careful & that person later apologised to the readers without having the intention to be defamatory. And also that person agreed to ask the relevant authorities if he/she wasnt sure.

Posting it here (in a food review website), really doesnt help anything except for possible defamation.

My advise, dont post something you are not sure of, under the idea of "innocence" & "naivity". There's a place for everything. Check with Ministry of Religious Affairs, if you still not sure. *peace*

However, frm my personal experience, halal Tepanyaki sauce are hard to find.

Sorry for the late reply & thank you for bringing up the issue, as this is already a frequently asked question on excapade sushi facebook smilies/smiley.gif

1. Teppanyaki/Teriyaki sauces are all locally prepapred by our kitchen staff (majority are muslim)with only halal ingredient.

2. Halal signage only applies for restaurant certified by Brunei Religious Council. We are working on it now.

3. We only use halal meat & poulty from authorised distributors in Brunei (Halal cert are available at all out outlets).

Hope the above clarifies smilies/smiley.gif or email excapadesushi@brunet.bn

did not answer all the questions...
written by bibi, September 01, 2010
Dear excapade sushi,

thanks for the response, however you did not answer all the questions.

1) The forum didnt only ask about tenpanyaki/teriyaki sauces. They asked about all the other ingredients you use in cooking.

2) Does this mean that there really are red 'not-for-muslims' sign behind your cashiers? Why are they behind the cashiers and not at the entrance of your restaurant where everyone can see? (so people are all aware and can make their own judgements whether to eat there or not).

Please, while you are 'working on getting halal status' please display the red label where everyone can see.

Thank you.

Respect fellow muslims
written by The Truth, September 02, 2010
I've the comment here about the halal logo. I noticed some restaurant simply put the halal logo whereas its is not being verified by the Brunei religious council. It is not right to say your restaurant is halal when you only mention the meat are from halal sources. The ingredients is also need to be halal. Some restaurant only mention about the source of meat but what about the ingredients. The process of making Japanese food requires a lot of ingredients and some of it are not halal certified. I hope some relevant parties can look into this and the owner can be more well aware to that Muslims here are not feel being cheated

feeling cheated...
written by bibi, September 02, 2010
@ peacemaker,

Yes you have a point. However, fact is the particular restaurant we are talking about is a restaurant that has the red 'not-for-muslim' sign hiding behind its counter and not displayed properly. Honestly I feel cheated/fooled. Notice how the restaurant's reply mentioned nothing about the red-sign.

Yes regarding other restaurants we can use our own judgement whether the food served are halal and/or hygienic. You judge by things such as if the owner and workers are Muslim, by how clean the place looks, what are the food served, and other things. And definitely if the place has a 'not-for-muslim' signage, that definitely goes into consideration for most Muslims.

@The Truth made a very good point. The fact that it is Japanese cuisine makes the halal issue more serious, since probably many ingredients might be from Japan or other countries. Its not the same ingredients you use to make local dishes, which use halal ingredients that are readily available.

By the way, I did not ask what are the ingredients, I asked if ALL the ingredients they use are halal. Because Excapade response only commented on teriyaki/tepanyaki sauce and meat/poultry, hence not really answering the question.

1. We have never hide any red sign anywhere behind our counter. Perhaps someone can enlighted us with the red or green sign which read "bukan makanan untuk orang islam". What restaurant should have this signage?? We understand this was mandatory in the past where the owner is a non muslim & today this is not a requirement anymore.

2)Cut/paste from ES FB comment

"Both mirin and sake are alcoholic ingredients. I know alcohol evaporates when they are cooked but I do believe not all teriyaki sauce are cooked. I know sake has a 20% alcohol content and mirin a lower 14% content and some a... 1% alcohol content. The thing is, they are still alcohol. Do you use sake or mirin knowing Brunei is an alcohol-free country? I'm a very loyal excapade fan but as a Muslim, if the doubts creep in, I can't in good conscience eat teriyaki sauce meals without knowing the actual ingredients that Excapade sushi uses. Please clarify. Failure to do so will result in further investigations. Please do not ignore this. We need to know your alternatives to mirin or sake if you use alternatives. You need to clarify and make an official statement because Muslims cannot have doubts.See More
August 18 at 4:12am

Excapade Sushi: Good morning
Thank you for your enquiry. This has been a frequently asked question. Yes, the use of mirin & sake are commonly use in Japanese food (in teriyaki sauce & sushi rice) especially in Japan & other countries where alcohol are allowed. Sake is japanese rice wine & mirin is usually a mixture of water & sugar.
Since we started we have never use sake or mirin in any of our dishes & never will. We modified our teriyaki sauce, our ingredient are basically soyu, water, sugar, chix bones & vegy extract preapred by mostly muslim kitchen staff
Today halal issue is one of the biggest concern in FB industry. More & more manufacturers are moving into making halal ingredient? E.g.halal sushi rice mix vinegar (or mirin) & other sauces.
We fully understand your concern & hope the above clarifies. We are local & share the same concern smilies/smiley.gif"

Other sauces for soba, soup, sushi rice mix, salad, tempura & etc are all prepared by us using only halal ingredient purchased locally smilies/smiley.gif

Hope the above helps smilies/smiley.gif & Selamat berpuasa to all smilies/smiley.gif
