The History of LFHW (Brunei). The term "Lovefoodhatewaste" has existed for some time but it never has been introduced in Brunei Darussalam before. So both Alin (of Kurapak) and I sat down last year to come up with a concept for Sungkai buffet. In the end, we decided to make a portal of our domain. But it only kicked off during the week of Ramadhan last year and we had pretty good hits of 37,000 hits [Click here]In 2008, we only had 20 restaurants that subscribed to our food portal. That was because we started our portal like into the 2nd week of Ramadhan. So this time round, Kurapak and I are well prepared for this year's Ramadhan. In August 2009, LFHW has already clocked 26,000 hits in a space of six days and it is certain to outpace last year's hits of 37,000. This really shows how popular this website is and we would like to thank our readers for supporting LFHW. Alhamdulillah as of now, we have 50 restaurants that are listed on lovefoodhatewaste.org and the numbers, I hope, will grow from time to time. So guys, you can still reach me at +6738677773 should you want to subscribe or advert on this website. The motto? The title speaks for itself. We are supposed to appreciate the food that we take and try to minimise wastage if possible. It's very common that we tend to take more than we can consume and hence, there is also food wastage especially during Sungkai. So guys, let's be aware and don't eat too fast. Another tip is not to take rice or drink too much water. ______________________________________________
Hey peeps. This is me, Rano Iskandar of LoveFoodHateWaste.org and I would like wish all my Muslim readers, Happy Fasting. Today, I'll be posting comments written by H who emailed us yesterday and gave her feedbacks on LFHW. So I thought why not make it public and others to see. Of course, I won't be posting every single comments from everyone but I thought the questions raised are quite relevant. Here goes... H says: "About Us" section could be beefed up - what is the purpose of the website? What is the philosophy proposed behind the name? Rano says: We shall be updating it shortly. We kinda forgotten about updating ourselves while busy handling the rest of the content. The philosophy really is to try to appreciate the food that we consume and avoid wastage. I myself sometimes fall in this category and I've been practising this motto whenever possible. H says: Website seems like a directory of sungkai promotions but with pretty pics & posters, i.e. anyone could make such a list. In fact have already seen a text list over at Turquoise & Roses. Rano says: Yes, the concept is no rocket science. But because of the resources we have, why not capitalised on that idea for the benefit of the readers and it turned out to be a successful one. H says: List of promotions may not be enough for ppl with more selective preferences. Would personally love to see menus provided on these sungkai buffets. I understand tho that the restaurants may need to provide this. Alternatively, there could be an overview on a restaurant's typical buffet offering (e.g. Malay & Western Cuisine), or perhaps a popular dish (e.g. Butter Milk Fish). Rano says: Some restaurants do have different dishes from time to time so it will be difficult to list all the food available on that particular day. As for cafe that doesn't do buffet, we will try to suggest the best seller or the most popular dish from that particular restaurant. H says: A suggestion for expansion would be to let visitors rate sungkai promotions based on (1) choice of food (2) quality of food (3) price. Visitors could also see lists of promotions sorted by such criteria. I don't know if the restaurants here have paid to be listed or if there are any TOC involved in letting their promotions be listed here, so I understand if it's fairer for all listings to be on an equal footing, with no added ratings. Rano says: We try to be more diplomatic and we have created a poll on which restaurants are your preferred choices. The idea of choices, quality and price can be very subjective knowing that they are paying clients. However, we've already included a comment section for people to give their feedbacks. Let's hope restaurant owners can see this as positive criticism if any. H says: I'm sorry I have not seen this website before, so I apologise if I misunderstand its intent. What purpose does this website serve outside of Ramadhan? Would love to see some expansion on the separate "love food" and "hate waste" components. For the first, perhaps some collaboration with foodie bloggers, e.g. the recipe book event from a few months ago? For the latter, maybe spreading awareness on the sins of wasting food, of the importance of food in impoverished countries and charity? Rano says: There are many ideas that can be derived from this portal alone. Yes, the basic idea is to create a food portal for the public and to make it easier for browsing and gathering information. And yes, we want to expand and explore other ideas in creating more awareness. Everyday is a learning process and we will try to implement new ideas with relation to food and health especially. Who knows this can turn into a magazine? H says: That said, I am pleased to see another Bruneian website initiative that has been written about in local newspapers. Also, the graphics are quite attractive. Hope you don't take offense at my comments, I only wish to see such initiatives as these reach for higher. :) Rano says: We are very grateful for your comments and your support. We are really open to suggestions. We just started this portal and we hope to make it the best information for food in Brunei.
